Sunday 13th August, 9am Guildfordians Clubhouse

Charlotteville Cycling Club are organising a ride in memory of Roly Masset, who died earlier this year. Details are:

Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting Roly will know he was a gentleman, club stalwart, all round good guy and an ambassador for cycling over many decades.

In honour of his life I am proposing a ride, open to all, meandering through the lanes of Surrey and West Sussex. Lunch will kindly be provided by Derek and Mary who have generously opened their home to us for the event.

After suitable relaxation and refuelling, we will return over the Weald and Downs to Guildford.

For those who wish to join the ride for a shorter distance, mainline train stations are available at the halfway point, Havant or Rowlands Castle, and at various points along the return route.

I have provisionally mapped a route of approx 89 miles in total but will not be posting a gpx file, it’s truer I feel to Rolys ethos of riding if we use local knowledge and common sense rather than staring at a screen!

Guildfordians Clubhouse is the rugby/sports pavillion at the north of Stoke Park, limited parking is available on site, additional parking is available at the Spectrum.

Route as planned runs Guildford-Shalford-Bramley-Hascombe-Dunsfold-Chiddingfold-Lickfold-Midhurst coffee stop Bepton-East Harting-West Marden-Hambrook lunch, return route will follow mainline railway line east of A3 as close as possible including Petersfield, Liphook, Haslemere probably another coffee stop somewhere and finish back in Guildford.

If you do intend to ride, could I ask you to contact me batch_78@hotmail.com so I can provide an idea of numbers for catering.
