Below is a list of events which West Surrey CTC are organising in 2019. These rides are intended, not only for club members, but particularly for riders from other clubs. We’re a friendly bunch and enjoy sharing a selection of our finest routes with others. There is usually a small charge to participate, but as compensation, there’s often some refreshments thrown in. These events form part of our regular calendar of club rides which take place every week and for which information can be found elsewhere on this website.

You’ll see that, by clicking on some of the events, you’ll be taken to another page where you can find out more about the ride and also register online to ride the event. If you encounter any difficulties with doing this, or want to speak to an organiser direct, then please use the appropriate contact number using the information provided on this page in the right hand column.

Remember that if it’s an ‘Audax’ event, you really should try to enter in advance.

The ‘Reliability Ride’ series has more relaxed entry requirements – you just enter on the line; however, it’s useful for the organiser to know that you plan to ride, so he has some idea of numbers; do please phone or email the organiser in advance (even if you end up not riding because the weather’s awful!).

ENTERING AN EVENT  As mentioned above, entry may be possible ‘on-the-line’ but please check with the organiser to avoid disappointment.  Even when entering on-the-line, it’s best to come with your Entry Form completed together with the correct ride fee. Click on the event itself (in the table above) to download a specific event entry form (if available). For AUDAX events, you must use an AUDAX event entry form. Find the event on the AUDAX calendar and download a form.

Cycling UK Tourist Competition   Our parent organisation, Cycling UK, formerly known as the Cyclists’ Touring Club (CTC) created this competition about 40 years ago. Sadly 2018 was the last year that the competition was organised, so it now no longer exists.

Audax Events  Audax rides are organised by volunteers according to the Audax UK Rules, with the route presented as a list of instructions on a route sheet. There are no direction signs placed on the route. A GPX file is nowadays very often available and downloadable from the relevant event page on the AUK website. Controls are devised to ensure that the rider follows the route and doesn’t take shortcuts. A ‘brevet card’ is provided at the start for marking at each manned control, or the rider has to answer a question at an information control. There is an overall time limit for completion of the ride. Food and drink is usually available at the start and finish; on the route, it’s generally cafés or shops. There is no support provided for riders on the route. Entry to Audax events is usually on line or by post; entry on the day may be available but there is likely to be an additional small sum to be paid.

The Benstead Cup Competition
The Benstead Challenge Cup was presented to the West Surrey D.A. in 1937 by Archibald Benstead, who was then Vice President of the D.A.

There will be NO Benstead Challenge in 2019.
